Mr. John Floyd Akins, age 57, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1971 graduate of Statesboro High School. He was employed with the City of Statesboro for over 10 years and with Georgia Southern University Physical Plant Landscape Maintenance Department for the past 10 years. Mr. Akins was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Paul D. Akins, Sr. and Betty Stuck Akins. John was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Surviving are his son and daughter in law, Michael and Monica Akins of Claxton; a grandson, Maddox Akins of Claxton; three brothers and sisters in law, Paul D. Akins, Jr. and Diane, Bill and Beth Akins and David and Judy Akins all of Statesboro. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00am in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Scott officiating.

Interment will be in the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alan Baggett, Ed Mikell, Wendell Akins, Ed Akins, Hugh Mallard, Joe Johnston and Richard Cannon.

Honorary Pallbearers will GSU Physical Plant Employees.
