He served as a fighter pilot in WWII and the Korean War and also flew as a Captain with the Air National Guard unit in Bangor, ME for eleven years.


He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1951 with a BS. Degree.


He moved to Lincoln as a game biologist in 1952 where he worked for the Inland Fisheries and Game Department for ten years.


He became manager of Gateway Press Inc in Lincoln in 1961 and the following year became owner and publisher of Gateway and the Lincoln News. He was owner and publisher of the weekly Lincoln news in Lincoln, ME for almost 20 years.


He was past president of the Lincoln Fish and Game Club, and the Lincoln Jaycees where he was voted the Most Outstanding Young Man for the state. He was past president of the Lincoln P.T.A. and past president of Hospital Administrative District No 1 for nine years. He also served as a Cub Master and was very active in the Boy Scout movement and was a life member of the VFW.


He is survived by three children Daniel G Aiken an Attorney of Lincoln, ME; Jacqueline G Aiken, R.N. of San Francisco, CA; Phyllis Coyne Aiken of the Lincoln School Department; three grandchildren Kristofer D Aiken; Keri E Aiken and Kortney J Aiken all of Lincoln, ME.
