Andrew Vernor Adamson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adamson of Pilot Mound, passed away at his home there Saturday, July 18th, 1908 after a four weeks illness with typhoid fever. The funeral services were held from the M.E. Church in Pilot Mound Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. J.E. Nichol of Pilot Mound and Rev. C.O. Freeman of Boxholm and attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, the business houses of Pilot Mound all being closed during the services. Both ministers spoke very feelingly and tenderly of his exemplary young life and the noble precepts he taught during his brief stay in this world. The music was furnished by a quartette consisting of Messrs. Axel Henderson and Andrew Johnson and Misses Jennie Carlson and Julia Larson. Miss Anna Larson sang a beautiful solo and a class of the Boxholm pupils sang "God be with You till we meet again,: which he had drilled them to sing for a school exercise. The Pilot Mound Cornet Band, of which he was a member attended in a body in uniform and six of them acted as pall bearers. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, chief of which were offerings from the band, his class Alumni and the pupils of eh Boxholm schools where he had taught for some time and was dearly beloved. The remains were laid to rest in the Pilot Mound cemetery. Those who attended from Boone were B.P. Holst and daughter, Blance, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Amme and children Myrtelle, Fred, Lewis and Clyde, Axel Henderson, Geurney Schaffstall and Misses Mabel and Esther Thorngren.
Andrew Verner Adamson was born near Boxholm in Grant township, Boone County, Iowa, Jan. 22, 1887, and passed away on the twenty fifth anniversary of the wedding of his parents July 18, 1908, aged 21 years, 5 months and 26 days. He attended the schools of Grant and Pilot Mound townships and in May 1905 graduated with honors from the Pilot Mound high school. He attended the Boone County teacher's institute and in the fall of 1905 took up the profession of teaching, in which he labored earnestly and faithfully until his death, having had charge of the schools at Boxholm for a number of years. His young life was most exemplary and ennobling and his true Christian character attracted those about him and led them to better and purer living and he was universally loved by his associates, pupils and fellow workers in the field of higher education. He was earnestly devoted to music, reading and educational arts and his life gave promise of a most bright and useful future, but it has pleased God in his wisdom to call him to that brighter world on the very threshold of his life's fruition. He is survived by his parents, one sister, Belva, and two brothers, Frank and Earl, to whom is extended the earnest sympathy of a host of sorrowing friends in their bereavement.
