Charlie Lewis "Shorty" Adams, 81, of Statesville passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Gordon Hospice House following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Adams was born May 25, 1930 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Clyde Roscoe and Ida Loyd Adams. He attended Cool Springs School and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On June 18, 1955, Mr. Adams married Versie Lee Mason Adams, who survives.
He was a retired machinist with Southern Screw where he worked for over 40 years.
Mr. Adams was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, RA Leader, and Usher and served on the Welcoming Committee. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 65.
Mr. Adams volunteered with the N.C. Baptist Men's Disaster Relief and was very passionate about serving. He was certified with the American Red Cross in Disaster Relief.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams was also preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Adams Miller and Hazel Adams Barkley along with one brother, Ralph Adams.
Along with his wife, Versie M. Adams, Mr. Adams is also survived by one son, Jeffery Scott Adams (Amy) of Chesapeake, VA, and one daughter, Janet Lee Adams Braswell (Fred) of Charlotte. He is also survived by two grandsons, Brandon Adams of Cary, N.C. and Mason Braswell of Charlotte along with three granddaughters, Taylor and Courtney Adams of Chesapeake, VA and Madison Braswell of Charlotte and a former daughter-in-law, Donna Cherry Adams of Cary, NC. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Darren Johnson and Rev. William Weise officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:30 until 3:00 pm at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow the funeral services in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the N.C. Men's Disaster Relief, PO Box 1107, Cary, NC 27512 or to the American Legion Post 65, 2446 Salisbury Hwy., Statesville, NC, 28677.
