ABERNATHY, ANDREW J. (ANDY) - age 89 of Andersonville, TN passed away June 3, 2008 at his home. He was a member of Andersonville United Methodist Church and a former member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, Norwood. Andy was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Air Force as a B-17 Flying Fortress pilot with the 379th Bomber Group, England. He retired from the Tennessee Air National Guard as Lt. Colonel. He worked for the FAA in Flight Services in Knoxville and retired as a Flight Safety Specialist in Raleigh, NC. He was a 32nd degree Mason Oriental Lodge #453 F&AM. He had a love for water sports, and was an avid Vols fan. Andy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha C. Abernathy; son, Allen and wife Debby of Concord, NC; granddaughters, Rachael of Charlotte, NC and Robin of San Diego, CA; sisters, Frances Derryberry and husband Gwen of Pulaski, TN, Betty Arnold of Nashville, TN, Alice Smith and husband Roy of Tullahoma, TN; brother, Ed Abernathy of Washington, D.C.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service 7:00 P.M. Friday Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev Jack Sills officiating. Family and Friends will meet at Highland Memorial Cemetery 10:45 A.M. Saturday for interment at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers the Family request memorials be made to Covenant HomeCare Hospice or a charity of your choice.
