Elizabeth Wiser McKeage was daughter of William McKeage and Sarah Aikens. Libbie was a school teacher before marriage, educated at a college in Holton, Kansas. Her parents saw to her education because they thought she would not marry with her disability (she was stricken with polio at age 6). Libbie married Rufus Miner Bailey February 06, 1879 in Hoyt, KS. They had 9 children. Family evenings would include readings by Rufus and were eagerly anticipated by all the children. They all developed a great love of reading.

Elizabeth and Rufus retired from farming December 31, 1922 and moved to a home in Britton, where they lived out the remainder of their lives.
