Second Lieutenant Arends served with the
330th Combat Crew Training Squadron at Biggs
Field, El Paso, Texas.
He was one of seven airmen killed in the line
of duty when B-24D Liberator #42-72887
was crash landed, due to a mechanical failure,
30 miles north of the airbase, but on the
New Mexico side of the state line.
The other crew members who perished were:
