John C. Adler Jr., 29, of 306 Nelson St., East Syracuse, died Sunday after being injured in an accident at Salmon River Falls.
Mr. Adler was a life resident of East Syracuse. He worked six years as a surgical scrub nurse at the main operating room at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital. He graduated in 1983 from East Syracuse-Minoa High School and the licensed practical nursing program at Onondaga-Madison BOCES and in 1988 from the surgical technology program at Onondaga Community College.
He was a communicant of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in East Syracuse and an 18-year member of Troop 96 of the Boy Scouts in East Syracuse, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a Petty Officer 2nd Class for eight years with the Syracuse Naval Reserves and served in Operation Desert Storm in a MASH unit. In 1990 he was named "Sailor of the Year" at the Syracuse Reserve Center.
Surviving are a son, Evan Michael of Chittenango; a daughter, Eden Marie of Chittenango; his parents, John Sr. and Ellen of East Syracuse; a brother, Joseph W. of Liverpool; a sister, Julia Adler Enderle of East Syracuse; a niece, two nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew's Church, East Syracuse. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Minoa.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Russell H. Schepp & Son Funeral Home, 109 East Ave., Minoa.
Contributions may be made to a trust fund for the Adler children in care of Julia Adler Enderle.
