HEREFORD - Eugene Ralph Anderson, 70, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008.

Prayer services will be at 6:30 p.m. today and rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Hereford Heritage Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Valdez officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery.

Eugene was born June 11, 1937, in Chicago to Ralph and Valarie Tokarski Anderson. His family moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he graduated from De La Salle Military Academy as valedictorian at the age of 16. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1956, serving for two years and served in Korea. Upon discharge from the Marines, Eugene attended the Professional Photographers Institute and attended electronics technician training. He was a professional photographer, the Childress newspaper editor and also was a broadcast engineer in Missouri and Texas before moving to Hereford from Childress in 1982. In 1982, Eugene opened Anderson's Studio until retiring in 1994. Also, in the mid-80s, Eugene owned and operated the Credit Bureau of Hereford until his ill health forced him to sell, and he finally retired in 2006. He married Naida Ruth Oltman in 1958 in Hannibal, Mo., and five children were born to this union. He later married Shirley Rogers. Eugene was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hereford, where he served as a Eucharistic minister to the sick. Eugene was a member of the British Royal Photographic Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two sons, Anthony "Tony" Anderson of Brookfield, Mo., and Philip Anderson of Bremerton, Wash.; three daughters, Valerie Duever of Auxvasse, Mo., and Mary Anderson and Jennifer Anderson, both of California; three stepsons, Kent Rogers of Canyon, Curtis Rogers of Springtown and Craig Rogers of Centennial, Colo.; three stepdaughters, Kimberly Burk of Edmond, Okla., Karen Brooks of Las Vegas and Kelly Rogers of Hereford; five grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Rosary Makers, St. Anthony's Catholic Church Parrish Office, 114 Sunset Drive, Hereford, TX 79045; or Covenant House, Fairview Station, P.O. Box 66330, Houston, TX 77266-6330.
