Roger R. Peterson, 84, of Kearney died Friday, May 6, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Roger was born June 20, 1926, in Kimball to Pher Rueben and Fannie (Rumsteg) Peterson.

On May 24, 1953, he married Audrey Richendifer in Bladen.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Cynthia Peterson-Callahan and Lani Ruiz, both of Austin, Texas, and Christine Gould and her husband, Greg, of Omaha; grandchildren, Alexander and Michaela Gould of Omaha; sister-in-law, Marge Peterson of Indio, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Kimball High School in 1944.

Roger was a veteran of World War II, the U.S. Army Reserve and the Korean War. He proudly served his country from 1944-1951.

Roger graduated from The University of Nebraska at Kearney with a bachelor of science degree in education and later obtained his master of science degree in education.

Roger owned and operated Pete's 66 Service Station in Kearney, then taught school at the Boys Training School and then at Upland. He then taught shop and computer science at Horizon Middle School until he retired in 1989.

Roger was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council and the counting board, and was active at Martin & Katie's Book Store.

Roger was a member of Kearney Elks Lodge 984, Kearney American Legion Post 52 and VFW Post 759.

Roger was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Inurnment was The First Lutheran Church Columbarium.
