Survivors include his mother Marjorie and stepfather Joseph Schmidt of Crystal Lake;
Two brothers James Abatte of Algonquin and Russell Abatte of Arizona; his paternal grandmother Virginia Abatte, his maternal grandparents, Milton and Alice Rogman of Algonquin; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father and paternal grandfather, Oscar Abatte.
The funeral was held at the Light of Christ Lutheran church of Algonquin, with the Reverend Roger Olson officiating. Burial is in the Algonquin Cemetery.
