The Sherman (Texas)Patriot of late date, notices the death of R. M. Jones, of the Choctaw Nation. Mr. Jones was a half-breed, and succeeded in accumulating a very large fortune by trading in the Nation and by farming. The Patriot estimates that his estate is worth over a million dollars. Before the war he was a large slave holder, and at one time worked, we believe, four large cotton plantations on Upper Red River.
Published in the Shreveport Times March 21, 1873 and is available in the card file in the genealogy department of Shreve Memorial Library, Broadmoor Branch, Shreveport, LA.
