Emily Jane McHaley was born to Henry A. & Esther Isabel McHaley (burials unknown). Daniel Perry (real name Barnabas "Barney" Minkler) was married to Emily's mother Esther Isabel (Bulling) McHaley when he and Emily ran off together and changed their names to Daniel Perry and Jane Perry. Emily Jane McHaley was about 14-16 years old at the time. "Daniel" and Emily "Jane" Perry were living at Rooster Rock, Multnomah County, Oregon in the 1880 US Federal Census. They had a son, Hiram Perry, 2 months old at this time. Daniel, Emily, Hiram & Dagi* (a son born between 1881 and 1885) moved to the Wilson River in Tillamook County, about 1885, and were taken in by William A. Jackson and his wife Jennie (Illingworth) Jackson after William found them in the wilderness. Emily was sick and she died the next year possibly in child birth. She was buried up the Wilson River up from the Jackson home. Jennie I. Jackson left her husband William Jackson and she and "Daniel Perry" were married the next year. Jennie was pregnant with her daughter Daisy Jackson at the time she left William. (Information per Lela Lesley Sloan, granddaughter of William Jackson and Jennie Illingworth Jackson Perry.)

*According to Lela (Lesley) Sloan, Dagi was shanghai'd from the Oregon Coast and died of influenza on a ship in New York Harbor. Lela said that Dagi's family received a letter relating that he had died. There is no documentation to prove that this is true.
