ALBEMARLE -- Mr. Almond, age 86 of 28240 Hatley Farm Road, went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2010 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle.

The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle on Tuesday, March 30 from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. Rev. Ron Nichols will officiate.

Burial will be in Plyler Baptist Church Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12.

At other times the family will meet at the home of Kathy Almond Yow, 28240 Hatley Farm Road, Albemarle, NC 28001.

Born in Stanly County, NC on September 19, 1923, he was a son of the late Ed Almond and the late Margaret Anne Bowers Almond.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Alene Cox Almond in 2005 and brothers, Ulysses 'US' Almond, Milas Almond, Goodin Almond and Luther Almond.

He was a graduate of Millingport School. He served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Tristram Dalton. He worked for Douglas Aircraft in Charlotte and later retired from Federal Pacific in Albemarle as a unit supervisor. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

He is survived by sons, Brendon Lee Almond and wife Anita of Charlotte, NC, Reggie Lavon Almond and wife Pat of Norwood, NC, Jimmy Douglas Almond and wife Vonnie of Greenville, SC, Danny Lane Almond and wife Cindy of Albemarle, NC and David Wayne Almond and wife Karen of Troy, NC; daughters, Kathryn 'Kathy' Almond Yow of Albemarle, NC and Alene Almond Hinson and husband Derwin of Kure Beach, NC; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Spring Arbor and Stanly Manor for their loving care.
