Mrs. Ruth Alene Cox, 79, of Albemarle, died Oct. 18, 2005.

She was born in Norwood to the late John Thomas Cox and Dora Kathryn Austin Cox Barbee on June 10, 1926.

Mrs. Almond was a retired homemaker and a member of the Homemakers Extension Club. She was also a member of New Hope Baptist Church in New London.

The family received friends at the Albemarle home of her son, Danny Almond; and at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle on Oct. 20, 6:30-9 p.m.

Funeral services were held Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, Rev. Lonnie Gibson officiating. Burial followed in Albemarle in the church cemetery of Plyler Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas Cox and Dora Kathryn Austin Cox Barbee; her stepfather, Jonah Phillip Barbee; a sister, Clara Coley; and a great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband, Leroy Almond of the home; five sons, Brendon Lee Almond and wife Anita of Charlotte, Reggie Lavon Almond and wife Pat of Norwood, Jimmy Douglas Almond and wife Vonnie of Greenville, S.C., Danny Lane Almond and wife Cindy of Albemarle and David Wayne Almond and wife Karen of Troy; two daughters, Kathryn "Kathy" Anne Almond Yow and husband W.J. of Albemarle and Alene Gail Almond Hinson and husband Derwin of Kure Beach; a brother, Kenneth Barbee of Albemarle; three sisters, Marie and Martha Eudy and Janet Almond, all of Albemarle; a stepbrother, Roy Lee Barbee of Albemarle; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Plyler Baptist Church, 25958 Austin Road, Albemarle, N.C. 28001; the Roy M. Hinson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 254, Albemarle, N.C. 28002; or the Stanly Memorial Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 254 Albemarle, N.C. 28002.
