BRIGGS

Demmie Retta Briggs, daughter of David and Ida Hardman Wright, was born Dec. 17, 1882, in Marion County and passed away Feb. 15, 1979, at the age of 95 years, one month and 29 days, in the Chariton Manor, where she had been a resident for the last six years.

She was united in marriage to Charles Edward Briggs on October 25, 1899, in Lucas County, where she continued to live out the rest of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Clyde Wright; one sister, Gertrude Umbenhower; her son-in-law, Irvie Rigel; two grandsons, Clinton and Harold Rigel; two granddaughters, Marilyn Kay Briggs and Helen Rigel and two great-grandchildren, David Eugene Chiri and Terry Lynn Maasson.

She is survived by her children: Arthur Briggs and wife, Nellie of Chariton; Roy Briggs and wife, Louise of Williamson; Eva Rigel of Melcher and Millie Frazier and husband, Loyd, of Williamson; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 1979 at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Omar Petterson conducting. Burial was in the Coal Glen Cemetery.
