Linda Short Hogan, 61, passed away May 12, 2010, at her home in Boones Mill with family and friends by her side. Linda was the eldest of five children born October 9, 1948, to the late Billie and Annie Christine Short. Linda was also preceded in death by her brother, Michael Short and wife Mary, and their daughter, Jennifer. Linda worked for JP Stevens of Rocky Mount for 23 years and then Valcom, Inc. for seven years. Linda was a compassionate and loving person who enjoyed spending time with family, landscaping her home, a wildlife enthusiast, loved the outdoors and taking care of her cats. Linda is survived by her two daughters, Melinda Hogan Dunton and fiancé, Jamie Worley, of Roanoke, and Tammy Hogan Bryant, of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Tyler Bryant and Megan and Lochlyn Dunton; brother, Jerry Short and wife, Sara, of Rocky Mount; and sister, Carolyn Short, of Glade Hill; aunts, Jesse McCollom, Natalie Silvercloud and husband, Jay, Marie Dalton and husband, Robert, and Edna Fitzgerald; uncles, DT Short and wife, Eloise, Frank Arrington and Freddie Arrington; nephews, Kenny, Timmy and MJ Short, Terry English; and several cousins and friends. Linda was greatly loved and will truly be missed as a mother, sister and friend. Special thanks to close friend, Sheila Davis, and sister, Carolyn Short, who stayed by her side taking care of her during her last few weeks, friends and family members who gave love and support, Julie Watts, and Carilion Hospice. The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Arrington-Perdue Cemetery adjacent to Craft's United Methodist on Webster Road in Glade Hill, Va. with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010, in the Roanoke Chapel of Lotz Funeral Home, and other times at the home of a daughter, Melinda Dunton, in Roanoke.
