Daniel was a minister of the Gospel in the Methodist faith.

Daniel & Nancy (Morris) Asbury were married January 18, 1790 n Brunswick Co., VA.

Daniel and Nancy had twelve children over a span of 24 years.

Daniel's parents Thomas Asbury settled in Virginia and raised three sons in the Methodist faith. When the Revolutionary War broke out in 1775, their two oldest sons (John and George) joined the fight against the British. While they were in battle Daniel was captured by the Indians in 1777.

"Daniel Asbury, at the age of 15, was scalped by the Indians but survived and his wound healed. He was adopted by the Chief and lived with the Indians for about 7 years. He left the tribe after having converted many of them to the Methodist religion. Throughout his life, Daniel always wore a wig or cloth over his head to cover up his baldness caused by the scalping. Daniel Asbury married Nancy Morris in 1790 and settled in Lincoln County, North Carolina. Daniel was an early pillar of Methodism and founded a Methodist church in Lincoln County in 1791. He was a devout and tireless preacher, ultimately becoming a Presiding Elder. Daniel Asbury followed in the footsteps of his religious relative, Francis Asbury, who was the first Methodist bishop in America."

"Rev. Daniel Asbury was a Methodist Minister, and started the still active Rehobeth Methodist Church in Catawba County. It was then Lincoln County. Daniel Asbury started as a Circuit Rider and formed the first Methodist Church west of the Catawba River. He and his wife Nancy Morris Asbury are buried at the cemetery above church. He came to this area from Virginia. His Mother was a Jennings before marriage. He did leave a Will, probated in July, 1825. He mentions his three daughters Martha Abernethy, Susanna L. Wilkinson, and Letty Cornelius...There is much information on this family at the Lincoln County Library and Catawba County Library in Newton."
