Private John Thoroughman
Served with Co. B 1st Nevada Vol. Cav. during the Civil War from 1863-66
Born in Ohio he came to Nevada in the mid 1850s and worked as a Miner and a ranch hand around Dayton NV until until June 23rd 1863 when he enlisted for 3 years in the 1st Nevada Cavalry until he was mustered out at Camp Douglas U.T. on June 25th 1866 Not much more is known about him after the war except that he contuned to work as a ranch hand, All is known is in his later years he fell onto hard times and in Feb. 1906 he was admitted to the Ormsby Co. Poor Farm. (Now Carson City Co.) and Died there on Dec. 19th 1909 at age 71 of Liver failure. He was buried in the Poor Farm cemetery which is on the other side of a small creek called Clear Creek which puts them into Douglas Co. Being he was a Civil War Veteran he was given a White marble head stone were the other inmates of the Poor farm got wooden or no markers at all. Over the years this cemetery was forgotten until a few kind hearted locals took it upon themselves to not only find the Cemetery but fix it up a little. So today the only two marked graves (Both Civil War Vets) are surrounded by an iron fence in an wooded area just south of Clear Creek in Fuji park Carson Co. NV. It takes you a while to find this forgotten Cemetery. In fact I had been looking for over an hour and about to give up when I looked skywards and said "Fellows if you want me to find you give me a sign or something" It that moment my Cowboy hat flew off! towards the South West! "Well good enough for me" and 10 Minutes later I was standing in front of their Graves Thanks fellows
