DUNLAP – Benjamin J. "Ben" Bankert, 41, of Singapore, formerly of Dunlap, passed away at 7:18 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
There will be a funeral service for Ben on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Northwoods Community Church in Peoria. Pastor Dave Bucknam will officiate. There will be a visitation on Friday, July 22, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements.
Ben was born July 2, 1975, in Canton to Barry and Theresa Meade Bankert. They survive and reside in Canton. He married Kimberly Neeley on May 22, 2004, in Canton. She survives.
He is also survived by his three children, Mariah of Minneapolis and Drew and Hannah of Singapore; one sister, Heather Bankert of Mapleton; his mother, and father-in-law, Tom (Becky) Neeley of Morton; his paternal grandmother, Betty Bankert of Farmington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Louis and Martha Meade; and paternal grandfather, Thornley Bankert.
Ben graduated from Bradley University in 1998. He then went to work for Caterpillar Tractor Company, where he has been employed since. He recently became the Facility Manager in Marine Propulsion in Singapore. He also received his Master's Degree in Engineering from Bradley University in 2012. From the years 2008-2011, he and Kim lived in Italy, where he worked in quality management.
He attended Northwoods Community Church in Peoria and has also been very active in Young Life since 2004, where he has served on several Boards. Ben's passions were his family and the outdoors. He and his father enjoyed spending time together on woodworking projects and loved fishing and hunting, especially when he could spend time with his children.
Memorial contributions may be made to Young Life of Central Illinois or to Northwoods Community Church.
