Notes from The Wall:

If we are very lucky, there will be that one person, soul mate, other half of life itself, that we will meet and live out our lives with. That was Timothy Ernest Badostain to me.
We met living on seperate boats at the Terminal Island Marina in Long Beach, California when I was 9 and Tim was 10. Tall, dark and very handsome. Tim lived with his father on a small cabin cruiser and I with my Grandmother, Father and brother on a bit larger one. Many evenings would go by while I would lie awake just praying for he and his father to just walk by on the dock on their way to somewhere and pass notes through the port hole to each other. We lived an entire lifetime in the blink of an eye, when out of nowhere, my family pulled up the lines and moved to Redondo Beach and he to Catalina Island. The world as we knew it, as young loves, would certainly come to an end.
We survived, and would see each other many times when my family would motor over for vacations. My senior year, 1967 would see my Grandmother pass away with cancer, Tim in college in Long Beach, and the War blazing away. He heard the call and joined. For most young men, this was a call they would hear and respond. For Tim, not so easy. When we first met he was in Seminary, on his way to becoming a Prist. After getting to know each other, giggling and just loving to breath, he asked his father if he could go to public school. He later graduated from Avalon High School in Catalina. Believe me when I tell you that 26 miles across the sea is a very long way when you are very much in love as a young person with no way to commute.
Tim joined up and we visited at Fort Ord once during boot camp. Off he went as an MP, walked a dog for his first tour. My family loved him as much as I did. After I graduated from Redondo Union High, Tim was to be on R&R, hoping for Hawaii. No such luck. He drew Sydney, Australia. My grandmother, Dodie, came up with a ticket and passport for me and away I went to see him after over a year. Life again was perfect for 2 wonderful weeks. We were to be married when he got out. Tim came home for one more leave 6 months later and we planned on getting married on his final return about 6 months after that.
I got a call from his Dad one night that ended my dreams and everything else that made me who I was. Tim was gone. The first person to be lost in Viet Nam from Catalina. I remember some things about the funeral on the island - but the following year was, and still is, a complete blank.
This is my first attempt at trying to type a memory and I hope to get some pictures soon to post. I realize that there are no others for Tim, but I still grieve enough for the largest of family and friends that any young and so wonderful a man could have had.
Tim, I still and will always LOVE you.
Vici
P.S. My mother spelled my name Vicki, but Tim misspelled it in a love note when I was 9 and I have used it ever since. I am now 52. As of now July 2005 I am 61 and I still dream of Tim.

You never questioned, the "why"
Tim, We all shared, such, a special time, in our lives, on the Island. You were, such a wonderful, addition, to the class of 1966, your laughter and quiet demeanor. I have been, ever so grateful, to you, for the job, you did oversees. Each time I'am home, I visit, your grave and have a nice chat. Always, your friend, Cathy.
