Mrs. Lucinda Ackersook died in this village Sunday morning, March 6, aged eighty-one years.
Mrs. Ackersook was born in Patterson, New Jersey, 1822, was married to Cornelius Ackersook fifty years ago last September, and to them were born four children, all girls, two of whom are still living - Mrs. Jane Kolvoord of Hamilton and Mrs. F.C. Billings of South Haven.
A few years after their marriage they came west and settled in La Porte, Ind., where they remained several years, and from there removed to Illinois where Mr. Ackersook enlisted in a Illinois battery, serving with that company until the close of the Civil War. In 1867 he moved his family to Michigan, settling in Allegan County, and has been a constant resident in Hamilton ever since. The deceased was of a family of twelve children of which one sister and four brothers are now living near the place of their birth.
Mrs. Lucinda Ackersook was a conscientious Christian, she seemed to always have a serene Christian faith, and from early life had been a member of the Congregational Church up to the time of her leaving Illinois. There being no denomination of that character in Hamilton, she affiliated with the M.E. Church.
She maintained a sweet and loving disposition that was manifest to all who knew her. For some weeks past she had been growing weaker and passed quietly away. She had been a constant worker for good, both for her family and neighbors, during all the years of her life and she departed in peace, leaving a husband and two children to mourn their loss.
The funeral services were held a the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Kolvoord, in this village last Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, conduced by Rev. Rosendal of the Reformed church, who gave an excellent sermon in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends.
Interment was made in the Hamilton Cemetery. The casket was covered with a profusion of flowers of which the deceased was a fond lover.
