Nola May Andress, 96 of Anchorage, Alaska formerly of Dupont, Indiana passed away on November 9, 2012 at her residence in Anchorage, Alaska.

Mrs. Andress was born on April 16, 1916, in Indiana the daughter of Louis and Eva Bland Baker. She married Kenneth Dale Andress on October 20, 1945 in Portland, Oregon. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2001.

One of Nola's passions was traveling. Having many family members and friends here in the states, Nola and KD made many trips from Alaska to Indiana, many times driving over the Alaska Highway for several days with 5 kids in a small car. In 1980 they built a small house in Middlefork, Indiana and then their travels to Indiana became every year, twice a year. Nola's last trip to Indiana was in 2011 where she celebrated her 95th Birthday here with her family and friends. Traveling did not just mean coming to Indiana. In her lifetime she managed to visit all of the 50 states, some several times, and she also enjoyed a good bit of international travel. Among her travels she met and became friends with many people and her home in Alaska became an open house. Anytime anyone wanted to make a trip to Anchorage, all you had to do was call her and say that you are planning a trip up North and your bed would be ready when you arrived. She would even make sure someone picked you up at the airport. She was a gracious host and loved company, but there was one requirement for everyone; that was to do your own cooking while there.

Nola worked as a head Librarian with the Spenard Public Library for many years before retiring, and then did lots of volunteer work for them after that time. She was an avid reader and loved books for herself and those around her. Her love for books and reading was something she passed down to many of her kids and grandkids. Her love of reading also made her a very knowledgeable person of any subject and any time period; if you asked a question she likely knew something about the subject, and if she did not know the answer she would find it for you.

Nola was a flower lover; any and all flowers. She loved being out when the flowers were blooming, just walking among them and admiring their beauty. She could tell you the name of each and every flower, bush and tree. Fall was one of her favorite seasons of the year and her visits to Indiana always included that time of the year so she could see the lovely fall colors. Her home was never without a flower or some sort of greenery in a vase on the table, both here and in Alaska. Anything that bloomed, it might be a branch from a dogwood tree, or a sprig of honeysuckle, or bittersweet she enjoyed them all.

At the age of 80, Nola embraced "the computer age" and maintained an active email correspondence with family and friends until just a few weeks prior to her death.

Nola loved her family. She never forgot a Birthday, graduation or special occasion, even from so far away, and distance never made a difference at Christmas Time, Her grandkids waited in eager anticipation each year, knowing that Granny and K would send a huge package from Alaska. Her Christmas card list was pages long and friends from many states received from her each year.

If you talked to Nola a few minutes, you became her friend. She was a Grand Old lady who will be missed by many, family and friends alike.

Nola is survived by her five children, Glen (Gert) Sullivan of Deputy, Indiana, Mike (Wanda) Sullivan of North Vernon, Indiana, Merry Dye of Bradenton, Florida, Loraine Andress and Loretta Andress both of Anchorage, Alaska; one sister, Ruth Weller of Indianapolis, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Debbie Wassink of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Vicky Laufer of Deputy, Indiana, Amberlee and Garry Dye of Bradenton, Florida, Teresa Taylor, currently residing in South America, William Sullivan and Rebecca Sandefur both of North Vernon, Indiana; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Dale Andress, two sisters, Betty Ann Baker Nichols Baldauf and Ethel Grace Baker Rea; four brothers, James Kenneth Baker, Charles Woodrow Baker, Glen Odus Baker and Marion Baker.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating.
