She was born on Oct. 13, 1947, in Taylorville, the daughter of Harold and Opal Chrystel (Dowdy) Lowis. She married Victor Allen in July of 1964 in Decatur; they later divorced.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Victor Allen, and her grandparents, George and Alice Lowis and Wesley and Bertha Dowdy.
She is survived by her parents, Harold Lowis of Quincy and Opal Chrystel Lowis of Springfield; a daughter, Shelley Allen of Decatur; a son-in-law, George Rogers of Decatur; two grandsons, Wesley and Michael Rogers; two great-grandchildren, Amberleigh Rogers and Haven Kohrs; two brothers, Mark Lowis of Quincy and Greg (wife, Tracey) Lowis of Springfield; three sisters, Brenda Schawitsch and Patricia Gabel, both of Quincy and Debra (husband, Jim) Rodden of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She worked as a house cleaner and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved going to Tunica, Miss., and working in the yard.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at the funeral home with Pastor Chad Foster officiating. Burial will be at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville.
