QUINCY - Harold Lowis, 81, of Quincy, formerly of Taylorville, died at 9:28 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

He was born April 2, 1928, in Taylorville, the son of George E. & Alice F. (Durbin) Lowis. He married Opal Chrystell Dowdy on Nov. 27, 1946.

Mr. Lowis was a retired farmer. Prior to farming, he was a truck driver for Kent Trucking and also worked at Ralston Purina in Decatur.

Harold loved going to Tunica, Mississippi, and other river boats to play video poker. He was an avid fan of country music. He liked to go to the Lake of The Ozarks with family and favorite pet Baron. Harold loved spending time with all of his children.

He is survived by his former wife, Opal (Chris) Dowdy Lowis of Springfield; sons, Mark Lowis of Maywood MO., & Greg & Wife Tracey Lowis of Springfield; daughters, Brenda Schawitsch & Patricia Gabel & companion Herkie McGaughey of Quincy and Debra & husband Jim Rodden of Springfield; grandchildren, Shelly Allen-Rogers & husband George, Tyann Reid & husband John, Paul Cumby & wife Rachael, Patric Gabel, Samantha Williams-Lowis, Kevin Schawitsch & wife Lori, Mike Schawitsch, Maria, Nate, Anna, & Sofie Lowis; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Michael, Jacob, Eric, Ashley, Dylan, Noah, Lisa & Amelia; great-great-grandchildren, Amber Leigh, Haven, Tessa, Lane & Arizona; sister, Annabelle & husband Gus Sanders of Shobonier IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents; daughter, Dianna Allen; brothers; Harry & Howard Lowis; and son-in-law, Dale Schawitsch.

Visitation will be Wednesday June 3, 2009, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville.

Funeral services will be Thursday June 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, with Pastor Chad Foster officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville.

Memorials to American Heart Association, American Lung Association or American Diabetes Association.
