Ruth Ornell Abraham was born March 9, 1943 in Idabel, OK. She was lucky 13 of 16 children. Ruth was reared by her loving parents, McKinley and Emma Hurd Burch.
Ruth attended Idabel Booker T. Washington High School and graduated in 1961. She matriculated through Langston University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Ruth moved to Tulsa, OK and began her teaching career with Tulsa Public Schools. She met and married William Abraham. To this union they had a daughter, Starla Ornell Abraham.
Ruth is fondly known as "Sugar Girl" to family and friends because she had such a sweet spirit. She was devoted to her family. Ruth had a generous heart and a willingness to help others. She always provided a welcoming home to everyone and a bountiful meal to all who entered. Her love, kindness and generosity lifted your spirit.
Ruth loved church and serving God. She was faithful to God until her death on Tuesday, October 12, 2010. She was deeply loved by family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers and seven sisters. Ruth leaves to cherish her memory: Her husband of 45 years, William Abraham of Tulsa, OK; her daughter, Rev Starla Ornell Abraham; two grandchildren, Rheketah and William of Irving, TX; 2 brothers, RC Burch (Celia) of Santa Anna, CA and MC Burch (Patricia) of Tulsa, OK; 4 sisters: Clara Esco (Larry) of Okmulgee, OK, Gladys Overstreet Fletcher (Calvin), Martha Boone of Checotah, OK and Joyce Ann Baskerville or West Covina, CA; 1 stepchild, Tiara Johnson (Thurman), 3 step children: Thurmeia, TeJuan and Therman III of Tulsa, OK and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
