Gladys Odetta (Self) Austin, 95, of Moore, SC, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born November 30, 1916, in Statesville, NC, she was the widow of Samuel Grady Austin and daughter of the late Raymond Aaron Self and Nora (Summers) Self. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Austin was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and its Golden Age Club. She was employed by the Department of Agriculture-Soil Conservation Service for 35 years in Spartanburg, SC, Fort Worth, TX, and Washington DC.

After retirement, she traveled extensively and volunteered for multiple organizations including Spartanburg Regional Hospital, Converse College, R. D. Anderson Vocational Center, and RSVP-Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Gene Brock of Moore, SC, and Betty and Jim Martin of Raleigh, NC; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Theodore Gary Austin.

Services were private.
