Charles Raymond Olney of Gainesville died Thursday at Shands at AGH after a brief illness. He was 84.
Mr. Olney was born in Clinton, Iowa, and moved to Gainesville in 1971 from Augusta, Ga. He was a manager for a general chemistry lab at the University of Florida.
He served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was awarded the Purple Heart for service in the Pacific theater.
He was a Mason and Kiwanian. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Gainesville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Olney.
Survivors include daughters Leah Dorocke of Springfield, Ill., and Sara Olney of Gainesville; a son, Peter Olney of Gainesville; and a sister, Elizabeth Coman of Jacksonville.
