Katherine Maria "Katie" Claus was born on April 05, 1875 in Norka, Saratov, Russia. She was about age 14 when her mother died, and her father remarried in 1890 when she was age 15. She is listed at age 17 with her family on the passenger list of the ship Auguste Victoria, which arrived in NY in 1891. Her obituary states that the family lived in Sutton, Clay Co., Nebraska for 6 months, and then settled in Grand Island, Hall Co., NE. Katie married George Schleicher on Sept. 30, 1894. The marriage is listed in a book of Hall Co., NE records, although her obituary states that they married in Kearney, which was in Buffalo Co., NE in 1900 (Katie's parents were living there in 1900). George & Katie had 4 children, two of whom died in infancy. The family is listed on the 1900 & 1910 censuses of Grand Island, Hall Co., NE where George was a saloon keeper. George was killed on Oct. 7, 1914 in his saloon by an injury to the head from a sharp object. He lived for a short while but was unable to identify his assailant and the guilty person was never found. Grand Island Cemetery, Grand Island, Hall Co., Nebraska. Katie remarried a widower named Heinrich "Henry" Fuss on November 1, 1919 in Grand Island. Henry & Katie are listed on the 1920 census of Washington, Hall Co., NE and on the 1930 census of Grand Island, Hall Co., NE. She is listed in the January 27, 1930 obit of her sister Mary Jacoby as Mrs. John Foos of Nebraska and the March 24, 1931 obit of her sister Anna Propp as Mrs. Kate Foos of Gering, Nebraska. She is listed in the November 24, 1931 obit of her father Conrad as Mrs. Catherine Foos of Grand Island, Nebraska. Catherine Maria "Katie" Claus Schleicher Fuss died on May 02, 1946 in Grand Island, Hall Co., NE. Henry is listed as surviving at her time of death.
