Clifford Potter, 86, passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at his home. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired coal miner from Clinchfield Coal Co. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Joann Shortt Potter; parents, Sherman and Thursie Potter; two brothers, Cecil Potter and Joe Potter; and two sisters, Mabel Lawson and Elia Meade. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Leonard and husband, Mark, of Norton, Va.; three sons, Roger Potter and wife, Joan, of Clinton, Ind., Greg Potter and wife, Teresa, of Pound, Va., and Mike Potter and Pam Potter of Wise, Va.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Tom Potter and wife, Mildred, of Michigan, Sherman Potter Jr. and wife, Ona Lee, of Michigan, Anderson Potter and wife, Hedy Anne, of Ohio, and Jack Potter and wife, Inez, of Ky.; a sister, Phyllis Duty and husband, Audra, of Ky.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Clifford Potter will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, with Pastor Greg Sergent officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. till time of services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise. Entombment and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Big Stone Gap, Va.
