Robert Groves died at age 59. He was a selectman in Adams, Mass, from 1926 to 1929 and was a well known fern dealer. He died at his home at 10:30 a.m. at 120 Commercial street, Adams, Mass.
He had been stricken with a heart attack the night before after having appeared in his usual health upon returning from a trip through Vermont during which he bought Christmas trees for the holiday trade.
Born in Adams, Mr. Groves had lived there all his life. When he was 19, he began in the fern business which grew to be one of the leading businesses of its kind in the East. The ferns were shipped to all parts of the East and Middle West.
Mr. Groves built what was known as the McKinley Square garage which he conducted for some time and also maintained a service station known as the Groves Motor Company. After this business had been leased by the Tower Motor Company, Mr. Groves continued in the fern industry.
Mr. Groves's first wife, the former Alice Eddy, died 16 years prior to Robert, leaving three children, Mrs. Alfred Baker, Mrs. Larking Dudley, and Robert Groves, Jr. all of Adams. His widow, Mrs. Corinne Groves, and their four children, William, Arthur, Beverly and Richard Groves, survived Robert.
