"The death of Mrs. Porter Backus of Hartwick Seminary occurred at 4:45 o'clock this Thursday morning at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital where she was admitted as a medical patient, July 29th. Death was ascribed to Landry's paralysis. She had been ill about two weeks. Mrs. Backus was the daughter of Wilmot and Della (Murray) Green and was born at Morris, December 10, 1892. She was graduated from the Morris High school and the Oneonta Normal school and taught for some time in the district schools and for two years in the High school at Corinth. Her home was in Morris until eleven years ago when she came with her husband to live on the former Jarvis farm at Hartwick Seminary … Surviving are the bereaved husband to whom she was married September 15, 1920, and the aged mother, who made her home with them. It is expected that the funeral services will be held at the home on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock with burial at Hillington cemetery at Morris at 3:30 o'clock."
