"Allen Backus, father of Supervisor Chester T. Backus of Morris, died at his home near Dimmick Hollow, Morris township, Monday evening. The deceased was born at New Berlin, August, 1846, and had resided in that vicinity for many years. He was a man held in high esteem and his demise will be a source of much sorrow to all who knew him. He was a devoted member and liberal supporter of the Methodist Episcopal church of Morris. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Porter and Chester T. Backus of Morris; one brother, Ora Backus of Morris; and one sister, Mrs. Daniel Morse of Unadilla. The funeral was held from his late home Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock. His pastor, the Rev. B. C. Volz, had charge of the services. Interment at Hillington cemetery."
