Hardin and Pete sang with a Barber Shop Quartet along with two Bennett boys also from Stokes County. They sang almost every Sunday in church. Hardin's wife, Arnice, played the piano/organ.

The night after my mother died, Hardin and Pete came to comfort my Dad. After several hours of lifting my Dad's spirits, they ask him how long he wanted them to stay. They were prepared to stay all night if he wanted. All 15 of the Cromer siblings were good friends, outgoing, humorous and musical. Three of them lived to be over 100 years of age and 8 of them lived to be over 90.
