Mrs. Katherine Cromer Bovender, 90, of Winston-Salem died Friday morning, Feb. 13, 2004, at the Brian Center. She was born Jan. 23, 1914, in Surry County to Wilburn Franklin and Phoebe Kiser Cromer. Mrs. Bovender was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Roger William Bovender, and a daughter, Janet Marie Welch. Surviving are two sons, both of Winston-Salem, Charles and Larry H. Welch; three sisters, Elsie Caudle of Rural Hall, Georgia Young of Connecticut and Evelyn Fulp and husband, Henry of Walkertown; a brother, Floyd T. "Pete" Cromer and wife, Peggy of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park.
