"In reviewing the history of Marshall County it will be found that from the early year of 1845 the name of Holm has been prominently connected with its agricultural interests. Wild was the region, into which Jacob Holm brought his family in that year, its forests being still uncut, its prairie lands unbroken, and the Indians still roamed about at will seeking the deer and game which could then be had there in abundance. The family made the overland journey from Ohio, where in Summit county Jacob Holm was born on the 27th of August 1816, and he was reared on a farm there. His people were of German descent. On coming to Marshall county he entered a farm of ninety-eight acres in the dense woods of West township, where he erected a little log cabin home, and this served as the family abode for a number of years, Mr. Holm in the meantime pursuing the arduous labor of clearing and cultivating new land. In time he added forty-five acres to his original tract, and there he lived and labored until his life's work was ended in death in 1907 .He was a Democrat Politically, and he was a good and pious man, giving of his means and his time to the furtherance of the cause of Christianity. His religious affiliations were with the Reformed church, serving as one of the first officers of the church here, and he also donated the land on which the house of worship stood and gave liberally of his means for its maintenance. Ere leaving his native state of Ohio Mr. Holm wedded Sarah Salem in 1839, and they became the parents of three children, Adam C., Sarah and Mary. The wife and mother died on the 16th of December 1841, and in the following year he wedded Elizabeth Rupert, by whom he had three sons."

Jacob was the eldest of at least eight children born to John Holm (1792 PA - 1828 OH) and Margaret "Peggy" Warner (1897 MD - 1854). His younger siblings were Adam (1817-1896), Catherine (1819-1845), Mary (1821-1887), John (1822-1842), Margaret (1824-1891), Peter (1825-1913) and Sivilla (b.1827). (This info from a family tree on Ancestry.com.)

Jacob's marriage to Sarah "Sally" Saylor was on 27 Sep.1838 in Coventry, Portage Co., Ohio. Son Adam C. was born in 1841 and died in 1930, daughter Mary was born in 1834, and daughter Sarah Ann was born in 1836 and died in 1905.

Jacob's marraige to Elizabeth "Betsy" Rupert was on 18 Aug.1842 in Summit Co., Ohio. Their three sons were Moses (1843-1911), John (b.1843 or 1844), and Jeremiah (b.1847).

I was able to find Jacob on the 1850 Census, living in My Division (today part of Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana) with Elizabeth and their three sons. Jacob was a farmer.

I also found Jacob on the 1870, 1880, and 1900 Census, living in West Twp. (today part of Plymouth). On the 1870 Census, there is a farm hand, Benjamin Holm, living with the family. He was Jacob's nephew, the son of Jacob's younger brother Peter and Peter's wife Rebecca Weirich. On the 1880 Census, Jacob and Elizabeth's son Jeremiah, a widowed carpenter, was living with his parents along with his son Daniel who was born in 1876. Jeremiah's wife was Mary Ellen Stuck whom he married on 24 Mar.1868 in Marshall Co. On the 1900 Census, Jacob was widowed. Wife Betsy had died the previous year. On that census, Jacob was living with his eldest son Moses, Moses' wife Olevia, and their their youngest children--Ernest O. (b.1882), Chloe D. (b.1886), and Floyd O., born 1888.

Jacob died in 1907 at age 91 and was laid to rest at Elizabeth's side.
