South Ogden Groceryman Dies at 76
SOUTH OGDEN-Glen O. Allred, 76, of 26 Sylvia Drive, past president of the Ogden Retail Grocers Association, died Sunday at the Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Mr. Allred was born April 22, 1891, in Spring City, Utah, a son of Edward Francis and Elizabeth Overlade Allred.
On April 6, 1916, he was married to Mildred Spencer in Morgan. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Mrs. Allred died July 9, 1962.
He attended Snow College and University of Utah. He taught school in Rich County, Utah, Distric, Knight, Wyo., Logan, Brigham Young Teachers college and Carbon County.
In 1927 he joined the O. P. Skaggs Co. and in 1944 started the G. O. Allred stores which he operated until retiring in 1960.
GROCER DIRECTOR
Mr. Allred was director of the Utah Retail Grocers Association, Associated Food Stores of Utah and United Savings and Loan Association of Ogden.
He was a former director of Western Mortgage and Loan Association, former member of the Ogden Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club and Weber Club.
He was a life member of BPO Elks 719, member of Footprinter Association, Fraternal Order of Eagles and United Commercial Travelers. He was an elder and home teacher in the Thirty-second LDS Ward.
Surviving are one son, Max E. Allred, Salt Lake City; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, the following sisters: Mrs. Sarah Justisen, Mrs. Mont (Fern) Jensen, both of Spring City; Mrs. Ethelyn Anderson, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Thomas (Leah) Christensen, Torrance, Calif.
FUNERAL WEDNESDAY
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Lindquist and Sons Colonial Chapel with Bishop Robert L. Nielsen officiating.
Friends may call at the mortuary Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday until time of services. Burial will be in Washington Heights Memorial Park.
