(Read at the Funeral of Walter Leland Welborn, Sr.)
Nothing can erase from my mind
Thy beaming face that was so kind.
Nor thy smile that always greeted,
Or thy speech, never heated.
Thy purse was open to the poor,
The latch was loose upon thy door,
To your friends you were a brother,
There were no sins for you to cover,
A faithful God-fearer thou has been,
Thou time and money thou didst lend,
Hundredfold repaid in Heaven,
There to live with your other seven.
If only, Grandaddy, we could be,
Half as good made thee.
