Obituary—George G. Stanton, a resident of the Town of Thompson, died at his home in Starlight, Feby. 25, at the age of 64 years and 27 days. He was born January 28, 1831, at Newburgh, Orange county, and with his parents came to this county when he was a child 4 years old. He was united in marriage to Susan E. Sackett, at Mongaup Valley, Nov. 11, 1858. Mr. Stanton was at one time Poor Master of the town of Lumberland; and at the time the O & W Railroad was being built, he was foreman on the railroad for 4 years for Mr. Jackson. The deceased was engaged in farming and the grocery business, at the time of his death. He was very patient through his long illness, which was over a year's duration, and was fully aware of his approaching death. He was widely known, and had a host of friends, as he was of a genial disposition, always having a kind word for everyone. He was a good citizen, a kind father, and a loving husband. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss: Mrs. Joseph Covart, of Monticello; John, of Port Jervis; Willard and Wallace, who reside at home. A son Horace was accidentally shot while out on a hunting expedition five years ago last Sept. A brother and three sisters of the deceased also survive him. They are John Stanton, of Mongaup Valley; Mrs. Eliza Stewart, of Iowa; Mrs. Sibbel McBride, of Eldred; Mrs. Samuel Reynolds, of Mongaup Flats. The funeral services, which were largely attended, were held in the Forestburgh M. E. Church, Thursday, at 12 o'clock, and were conducted by Rev. Mr. Phillips, of Monticello. Interment at Forestburgh.
