Funeral services for Carl Robert Blythe, 94, formerly of Knoxville, who died on Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at Griffin Nursing Center, were held on Friday, January 5, at First Assembly of God Church. Pastor Brad Keil officiated at the services. Music was provided by organist Darlene Mooberry, and pianist Donna Blythe.

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery. Casket bearers were Rick James, Tim Spriggs, Fred Parker, Kevin Houseal, Mike Miller, David Spriggs and David Jordan. Honorary casket bearer was Robert Pitt.

Carl was born on June 15, 1906, in Columbia, Mo., the son of Burt Aaron Blythe and Mahaley Ann (Wood) Blythe. As a young man, he worked as a farm hand and for the railroad.

He married Marie Marguerite Simmons on October 22, 1927. The couple lived in Iowa and Missouri before moving to Knoxville in 1933. Carl farmed most of his life, until he was injured and went to work for the Knoxville School System. He worked for the schools for 20 years before retiring. Carl and Marie later moved to Pella.

Carl enjoyed woodworking, reading, and writing poetry. He also enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

He was a member of the first Assembly of God Church.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie; five sisters; and two brothers.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Don Van Gorp, and Elaine and Kenneth Houseal, all of Pella; son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Donna of Salinas, Calif.; sister, Lydia Robinson of Knoxville; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many other beloved family members and friends.

Memorials may be made to "Light for the Lost".
