John Jacob Schaaf was born in the town of Otterberg in present-day Kaiserslautern. He came to America in the 1830s. He married Christina Geary on 10 Nov 1835. They had 12 children: Mary, David, Elizabeth, Catherine, Margaretha, Charles, Christina, John, Phillip, Christianna, Benjamin and Mary. He was a retail grocer in Trenton.
