Betty McDonald Winner Peak peacefully went to be with the Lord Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, after a wonderful full life. She was born to Alex and Lola Craig McDonald on Sept. 17, 1926, in Lubbock. She was a 1943 graduate of Lubbock High School and attended Texas Tech, where she was a member of KoShari Club. She attended Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Colo., where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority.

She married Frank E. Winner of Beckley, W.V., in August 1945. She married Alton R. Peak of Lubbock in January 1954. She was a member of the Conchologists of America, the Coastal Bend Shell Club of Corpus Christi, the Louisiana Malacologists Society of Baton Rouge, a life member of the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club of Sanibel, Fla., and a charter member of the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum and Educational Foundation.

She is survived by a sister, Conny Martin of Lubbock; three brothers, Fred McDonald and Craig McDonald of Lubbock, and Mickey McDonald of Lorenzo; two daughters, Kate Winner of Ruidoso, N.M., and Susan Claybrook of Lubbock; a son, William Alex Winner of Lubbock; a stepson, Alton Herring Peak of Lubbock; four grandsons, Elec, Alan and Kevin Winner, and Dalton Claybrook, all of Lubbock; a stepgrandson, Jeff Peak of San Antonio; a stepgranddaughter, Janice Johnson of Warrensburg, Mo.; five step- great-grandchildren, Kaylyn and Doug Peak of San Antonio, and Erin, Amanda and Edy Johnson of Warrensburg, Mo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at W.W. Rix Chapel with Harvie Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under direction of Rix Funeral Directors.
