Fortunato "Forgee" G. Gallegos, age 95, a resident of Villanueva, NM, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Fortunato is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances Gallegos, daughter, Eileen Gallegos-Lewis and her husband, Ross, sons, Richard "Eugie" Gallegos and his wife, Shariy Schuler, Anthony "Gary" Gallegos and his wife, Pauline and Charles "Chuck" Gallegos. Fortunato is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great-grandson, brother, John Gallegos, sister, Luciana Lucero and many other family members and friends.
Fortunato was preceded in death by his parents, Porfirio and Respecia Gonzáles Gallegos and his brother, Piedad and sisters, Otilia and Cipriana.
Fortunato was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Villanueva, NM.
Forgee served our country during World War II in the African and European Theater. Fortunado was the owner of Tito's Bar, a rancher and was the first State Park Superintendent for the Villanueva State Park.
A Prayer Vigil/Rosary will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at French - Westside Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Villanueva, NM. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery. Friends may visit French on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, PO Box 39, Villanueva, NM 87583.
