The ladies contest Tuesday night at the roller rink in a two-mile race between Miss Anna Steege and Miss Rosa Guillott drew a large crowd. The rope was stretched around the hall at 9 o'clock and at 9:30 the excitement began. Miss Guillott took the lead after the first half round and succeeded in keeping it during the entire 40 rounds, making the two miles in 11 minutes and 30 seconds, with Miss Steege a few feet behind. The ladies are about evenly matched and had it not been for a misstep of Miss Steege's during the first part of the race the contest would have been very close. At the close of the race Mr. H. E. Miss Annie Steege is enjoying a two week's visit at her former home in Waverly, Iowa, having departed for that place on Tuesday afternoon. THE FERRIS-STEEGE WEDDING.
The wedding on Wednesday evening at the residence of H. J. Spencer of A. F. Ferris and Miss Annie Steege was a society event which has been looked forward to with more than usual interest, the bride and groom being widely known in this city and who had hosts of friends anxiously awaiting the consummation of the happy event. The spacious lawn and grounds surrounding the residence were illumnated by countless Chinese lanterns and the house was beautifully decorated with cut flowers and blooming plants. The house was filled to overflowing with invited guests. At twenty minutes past nine the wedding march announced the presence of the bridal party, who entered the parlor and were escorted to their position underneath a large floral horseshoe by Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Spencer, the latter being a sister to the groom. The bride was elegantly attired in a fawn colored satin dress, elaborately trimmed with iridescent beads, the dress being of walking length, with a bouquet of roses and diamond pin at the throat. Rev. J. A. Rowell, of the First Congregational church, performed the ceremony which was impressive and solemn, and during the space which was occupied by the minister in his preliminary remarks and the ceremony not a sound was to be heard from the assembled audience. Then followed a prayer and Mr. and Mrs. Ferris were introduced.
Congratulations were next in order, and they were earnest and seemed to come from the heart of every one who had the pleasure of shaking hands with the happy couple.
After this came an invitation to the spacious dining room where an elegant wedding supper was served. Dancing and general good cheer followed and the party broke up between the hours of 12 and 1.

The ladies contest Tuesday night at the roller rink in a two-mile race between Miss Anna Steege and Miss Rosa Guillott drew a large crowd. The rope was stretched around the hall at 9 o'clock and at 9:30 the excitement began. Miss Guillott took the lead after the first half round and succeeded in keeping it during the entire 40 rounds, making the two miles in 11 minutes and 30 seconds, with Miss Steege a few feet behind. The ladies are about evenly matched and had it not been for a misstep of Miss Steege's during the first part of the race the contest would have been very close. At the close of the race Mr. H. E. Leland presented the successful lady with an elegant perfume bottle set in silver mountings, in behalf of the Brainerd city band. (Brainerd Dispatch, 14 February 1884, p. 3, c. 1)
Miss Annie Steege is enjoying a two week's visit at her former home in Waverly, Iowa, having departed for that place on Tuesday afternoon. THE FERRIS-STEEGE WEDDING.
The wedding on Wednesday evening at the residence of H. J. Spencer of A. F. Ferris and Miss Annie Steege was a society event which has been looked forward to with more than usual interest, the bride and groom being widely known in this city and who had hosts of friends anxiously awaiting the consummation of the happy event. The spacious lawn and grounds surrounding the residence were illumnated by countless Chinese lanterns and the house was beautifully decorated with cut flowers and blooming plants. The house was filled to overflowing with invited guests. At twenty minutes past nine the wedding march announced the presence of the bridal party, who entered the parlor and were escorted to their position underneath a large floral horseshoe by Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Spencer, the latter being a sister to the groom. The bride was elegantly attired in a fawn colored satin dress, elaborately trimmed with iridescent beads, the dress being of walking length, with a bouquet of roses and diamond pin at the throat. Rev. J. A. Rowell, of the First Congregational church, performed the ceremony which was impressive and solemn, and during the space which was occupied by the minister in his preliminary remarks and the ceremony not a sound was to be heard from the assembled audience. Then followed a prayer and Mr. and Mrs. Ferris were introduced.
Congratulations were next in order, and they were earnest and seemed to come from the heart of every one who had the pleasure of shaking hands with the happy couple.
After this came an invitation to the spacious dining room where an elegant wedding supper was served. Dancing and general good cheer followed and the party broke up between the hours of 12 and 1.
