Byron Andrew Baker, 85, of Bartlesville died Sunday February 5, at his residence in Bartlesville. Mr. Baker was born January 12, 1927 in Caddo County Oklahoma, near Binger to Ernest Albra and Leona Vandelia (Brewer) Baker.

He grew up and received his early education in Kay County, and later Ponca City, graduating High School at Ponca City in 1945. He later attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College at Tonkawa where he earned and associate degree in 1947, and then later attending first the University of Oklahoma, and then Oklahoma a & M, presently Oklahoma State University, graduating there with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical engineering, and later receiving his masters degree from OSU also in 1964. He began his work career with the government energy research department, the U.S. Bureau of Mines as a Chemical engineer where he was employed for over 30 years, and the later worked for N.I.P.E.R. for a few years until he retired in 1984.

He was married to Jewell L. Huff on July 18, 1959, at Ochelata, OK. they had been married for over 52 years, celebrating their Golden wedding Anniversary in 2009. The Baker's were active members of the East Cross United Methodist Church where they had been members since 1970, and had served as a Sunday school teacher, and was active in numerous other activities of the church. Mr. Baker's hobbies included gardening, and writing poems, fishing and spending time with his family-especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, one daughter, one son, by two sisters, and by three grandsons.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents, and by three brothers, Warren ,Albra, and Claude Baker.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday February 9, 2012 at the East Cross United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jeff Burress, and Rev. Chad Perceful, ministers of the church officiating. Private family interment will be in the Oglesby Cemetery under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
