Born in Robesonia, moved with his father John to Geigertown when young. He was an apprentice with John Staudt at a flour mill on the Tulpehocken near Bernville. A few years later he served as a journeyman for John Miller at the a flour and saw mill in Strausstown.
He worked at the Seyfert's flour and Grist Mill in Shartelsville. He took charge of the flour mill for the Robesonia Furnace Co. He then bought the Flickinger's Flour mill at Reinholds Station. He later bought Bishop's Mill, Perkiomen turnpike in Exeter. He sold to Jacob Hertzog and retired in Reading.
Mr Ammon had a cheerful disposition. He was six feet tall and when younger had great physical strength. He was fond of athletic exercise.
He is survived with children: James S.; Dr. Jacob S.; Elijah S.; Emma C Rick; Mrs Ellen Raudenbush; William S.; Mrs. Lee L Eisenbrown; Mrs Mary Kerling
