MISS LIZZIE BROOKS DEAD

Passed Away This Afternoon After a Long and Painful Illness

Miss Lizzie Brooks, who has been seriously ill of creeping paralysis for several months, died this afternoon at 2 o'clock at her home on Lyon street. She has been confined to her bed since the first of the year and has suffered greatly. She had been unconscious most of the time for weeks past, but had short interaction with friends every day when she recognized them. She was able to converse today with brothers and sisters and they were at her bedside with her when she passed away peacefully.
The funeral will be at the residence conducted by Rev. Mr. Stewart of the Westminster church after which the body will be shipped to Ohio and laid to rest in the family burying place at Oxford. Dr. Brooks of this city and Mr. Andrew Brooks of Springfield, Illinois will accompany the remains.
Miss Brooks was perhaps one of the best known and liked teachers of Jasper county. She had taught in Carthage almost continuously for the past 30 years and her academy was patronized by young people from every portion of the county as well as from this city. She owned a neat brick building on West Sixth street and accumulated a nice property during her years of labor. She won the love of her pupils and all who knew her by her conscientious work and her amiable disposition. Her place in Carthage will be hard to fill.
