Martha Mae Peplow was born to Albert Peplow and Minnie Knuth 2 Jan 1883 in Straslund Germany,
She married George Franklin Carpenter about 1900 in Elwood, Vermillion, Illinois they had 6 sons and 2 daughters.
Martha could neither speak nor write English very well so when her first two sons were born she gave them the spelling of "Carpentier" and this is how this part of the Carpenter family became Carpentier.

She later married George Knaggs in 1926, Peoria.
