While being caretaker at Fernwood Cemetery, he used the chapel on the cemetery grounds as a carpentry shop since the chapel was no longer used as a chapel. He was very skilled at wood crafts and created many useful and decorative objects. The caretaker's house was attached to the back of the chapel. - a red brick victorian building similar to many in Royersford. He and his wife Dorothy were frugal and did not have central heat in the 1960's , and had an old iron fuel stove in the kitchen, with various room heaters in other rooms They had an extensive vegetable garden behind their house, and Dorothy preserved many vegetables and fruits. She also played the organ. They had a large electric organ that dominated the diningroom...per memories of Earl Duff III.
