After a honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1943, Willard worked for 30 years for United States Steel in McKeesport, Pa. After retiring from US Steel, Willard owned and managed Souvenir City, a retail store on Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach. He was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Virginia Beach Masonic Lodge No 274, AF & AM. He was also a Shriner and member of Khedive Temple in Chesapeake as well as an active member of the Polish American Club
